Rajinikanth
and Kamal Haasan are set to share screen space again for the first time since the early 1980s in a film tentatively titled KH x RK, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The promo released in February, got fans of the stars excited. While the rest of the cast details are yet to be announced, it is confirmed that the film features composer Anirudh Ravichander and cinematographer Rajiv Menon. In a recent interview, Menon spoke about the film, Nelson’s storytelling approach, the shoot schedule, and clarified speculation surrounding the promo visuals and production process.
When Will Shoot Of KH x RK Begin?
Rajiv Menon spoke about the project in a recent interview on the I AM with Dhanya Varma show. The filmmaker said that Nelson is a brilliant narrator of stories, saying he tells stories with humour while keeping a straight face. He added that it makes people laugh continuously even while Nelson remains expressionless. After narrating the story, Nelson asked him if he would shoot it, to which Rajiv agreed immediately, saying he loved the idea.
Rajiv Menon also shared that Nelson asked him to join the promo shoot within a week and gave him a brief idea about the concept 'who's the hero'. Rajiv also revealed that he received more phone calls for this promo alone than for his entire career as a cinematographer. He added that the film is expected to go on floors in August or September, as both Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth are currently working on other projects.
Clarification on Use Of Models
Following the promo release, some viewers questioned whether women seen in the background were props or AI-generated visuals. These claims circulated online, leading to speculation.
However, behind-the-scenes footage confirmed that they were real performers. Rajiv Menon has now also addressed the matter, clarifying that models have been brought in from Mumbai and other locations for the shoot.
Red Giant Movies’ Inban Udhayanidhi is producing the film, with the banner’s Arjun Durai and M Shenbaga Moorthy serving as co-producers. Speaking about the project, Kamal Haasan wrote on X that it is a special reunion with his friend Rajinikanth, adding that every great journey deserves another chapter. He also extended his best wishes to director Nelson Dilipkumar, composer Anirudh Ravichander, and thanked Red Giant Movies for supporting the collaboration. The film’s technical team also includes cinematographer Rajiv Menon, editor R Nirmal, art director DRK Kiran, and costume designer Pallavi Singh.
