Madhuri
Dixit's rich filmography cannot be complete without a film that still stands tall with its loyal fan base, plot, performances, and an onscreen pair that remains a heartthrob. Dil To Pagal Hai (DTPH), which released in 1997, might be nearing 30 years, but the magic of Shah Rukh Khan's Rahul and Madhuri's Pooja aka Maya is etched in our hearts. So much so that the romance of these two lead characters has become a benchmark. Madhuri agrees. Infact, she says the chemistry was so organic, they could feel it was coming out beautifully right on the set of the Yash Chopra directorial.
Madhuri Dixit recalls 'Aur paas' scene with SRK
One such scene was the famous "
Aur paas" featuring SRK and Madhuri. Even though the two superstars have given us innumerable films like
Devdas, Koyla, Anjaam and more, the intensity that they presented in
DTPH is for the keeps. Recalling how the two actors cracked that electrifying chemistry, especially in the aforementioned sequence,
Madhuri Dixit told Zoom that it was because the scene was written well.
"I feel that scenes work when they are written well. That's when the characters shine. And I thought this scene was beautiful. While doing that scene, it was so amazing because Shah Rukh has a fabulous personality. When he is performing onscreen, he can be amazingly romantic," Madhuri said.
The chemistry was organic
According to the diva, the scene coming out well was something they felt right when they were performing it. "When we were doing the scene, I remember it was like, this is working so beautifully. It just became so organic. And at that time, we did not have monitors, so we had to wait till we were called for dubbing, that's when we saw the scene. Then we were like oh my god, this has come out so beautiful," she shared.
Magic of Dance of Envy
Madhuri, who did a lot of dancing in the movie, given her character, also recalled the making of
Dance of Envy with Karisma Kapoor. This was the first film ace choreographer Shiamak Davar was working for, and hence the dance style was "jazz mixed with contemporary." Madhuri revealed how Shiamak's troupe members, who were also part of the movie as background dancers, cheered for both the actresses.
How her niece interpreted the dance
"It was so much fun. Because there's so much energy on the set," Madhuri claimed. She added a funny anecdote of how her niece, who was there, interpreted Karisma's mood and performance in the song. Madhuri said, "My niece was there, and she was watching it. She later told me that you know that other girl, she was trying to show off. Look at her toes, she was pointing her toes, Maushi. So, people pick up.""Karisma danced so well, and it was a blast dancing with her. We got along so well. It was a lovely sequence, and it was amazing," Madhuri added.
