What is the story about?
Actor
Vipin Sharma, who is recently making waves with his portrayal of PM Joshi in SonyLIV's Maharani 4, has been working since the late 1980s. However, the National School of Drama alum still pushes himself for a challenge. He shared why he doesn't mind calling up young filmmakers whose work he admires and spoke about the roles he'd like to do now.
Vipin Sharma on seeking out different characters on new projects
Recently, the veteran had stood out in recent films such as Monkey Man, Dhadak 2, and the short film Night Queen, which all pushed him as an actor. Speaking with Zoom, Vipin Sharma explained why he wanted to go beyond what was obvious. He said, "I'm very interested in the human aspect of all the roles that I do. What I mean by that is with all the shades. For example, in Night Queen, I played a guy who has gender dysphoria. Most of the characters that are written, obviously, are based on... it becomes interesting not to fall for the clichés of her character. If I'm playing a girl, I don't have to deliberately look feminine. It should just come naturally from me because every male is a female also, right? We are made of both parts of nature."Vipin Sharma on working with new filmmakers
The actor went on to talk about the young filmmakers whom he admired. He stated, "Well, Shazia [Iqbal], who directed Dhadak 2, is a brilliant filmmaker. I worked with her before also. I have another friend, Noireeta Dasgupta, who directed Night Queen. We always jam on ideas, and we are hoping that we get to make Night Queen into a feature film, and we are in chats with possible funding for that. Gaurav Utreja is a new director that I recently worked with—a brilliant filmmaker. There is this filmmaker in Chandigarh called Anmol [Sidhu], who made Jaggi, another brilliant filmmaker I would love to work with. I always keep an eye on new filmmakers, and when I see some work that excites me, I reach out and I connect with them." Vipin added, "And it's not just a reason to call them that; oh, they'll give me a role. It is more that I connect with them on that level. It's more of a like-mindedness than kind of a struggle that, okay, I'm an actor, I should reach directors. No, I only message people that I feel there is this connectedness there. We can create something." The Taare Zameen Par actor also felt that for co-stars. He wishes he could reunite with several of them. Vipin shared, "Like, I did Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai with Manoj [Bajpayee] and I loved that experience. Manoj and I have also known each other for a long time, and I keep telling him, 'Let's hope we do something again.'" Looking ahead to the upcoming months, the actor is returning for The Family Man Season 3 and will be a part of Kapil Sharma's Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2. He's also hoping that Maharani 4 creates enough of an impact so the show comes back for another season.Do you find this article useful?
