It
took two decades for the gang to reunite for a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada (2006). But how long till they come back for a third film? Original stars Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt are all coming back for The Devil Wears Prada 2, which is now playing in theatres worldwide. But the core four, along with director David Frankel, spoke about a potential third film in the series and how soon they could reunite for it. Along with filmmaker Frankel, producer Wendy Finerman and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna have also returned for the long-awaited sequel.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 cast on third film in franchise
In an interview with
Entertainment Weekly, Hathaway, Streep, Tucci, and Blunt all seem keen to come back for a third film in
The Devil Wears Prada universe. While the veteran Oscar winner Streep didn't want to "wait 20 years" for the next one, Tucci joked that they might have to exhume the actors if they wait too long.
Meanwhile, Blunt, who plays former assistant Emily Charlton, believes in letting a lot of time sizzle between the films. And if there is a third film, she wants "more to do together" with Tucci, who plays Nigel. In real life, Blunt and Tucci are in-laws; he married Blunt's elder sister Felicity in 2012. Hathaway was more practical and felt that the sequel's box office success would be an indicator of whether they could be back with another film. She hoped the characters could return because there’s more road to explore in a third film. Finally, filmmaker Frankel had the most promising update as he shared that "there's a life for the characters beyond this story."
The director added that they all had said no to a sequel 20 years ago and now the sequel was releasing in theatres. While he didn't want to say yes now, he did imagine that these characters could live on.
