Ishq releases today, on November 21 on JioHotstar, and actor Sumeet Vyas is stepping into one of his most complex roles - a morally grey, unpredictable, and emotionally layered man. The show explores messy love, emotional intensity, and hidden motives, and Sumeet says that performing a character with so many shades was both challenging and creatively satisfying.
Unfiltered Sumeet Vyas!
Sumeet Vyas explains that his connection with his role began the moment he read the script. Before sharing his thoughts, he sets the context of how an actor’s first impression often changes on set. He said, “When you read the first draft of a script, you create your own interpretation of the character. But when you reach the set and meet the director, you understand his vision and realise he is willing to dive deeper and explore.”He says director Raj played a key role in shaping the final performance. Giving context to his admiration, Sumeet talks about the freedom he received on set. Sumeet said, “Raj gives actors a lot of space to experiment. Without making it feel heavy or intimidating, he guides with clarity. He has seen a lot in life, so he naturally holds deeper insight into human behaviour, and as actors, that becomes very valuable.”Playing a character with dark emotions, internal conflicts, and unpredictable behaviour was something Sumeet genuinely enjoyed. He explains how much he values emotional depth in his work. “I personally enjoy exploring emotional and psychological spaces of characters, so the whole process turned out to be creatively fulfilling," added the actor.
Sumeet also points out how rare it is for a project to exceed expectations during the shoot. He gives context about the usual gap between script and final product. “Generally, what happens is that sometimes you read a very good script, but when you go to shoot it, the final product remains only 50 or 60 per cent of that potential. Very rarely do you like a script while reading it, and then while shooting, you feel like you are actually going beyond what was written. I felt something like that happened during this shoot.”Since

Parineeta, we wondered whether Sumeet revisited the original film for reference. He clarifies that he made the conscious choice
not to.He gives context about why he didn’t watch the classic film. He said, “I haven’t seen the original film. I got to know about it after I said yes. I deliberately didn’t watch it because I didn’t want to colour my performance. Now, I think it’s a good time to watch it. I do get influenced as an actor — you tend to make choices that actors before you have made — so I like to steer clear.”Did you like our chat with Sumeet? Let us know by tweeting at @TimesNow!
