Akshay
Kumar has his plate full once again. After Bhooth Bangla's success, he dived into the shoot of Anees Bazmee's next with Vidya Balan. He also prepares for the much-awaited release of Welcome To The Jungle. Now, it has been confirmed that the Bollywood superstar will be headlining India's first ambitious alien thriller, titled Samuk. The film is said to be one of the biggest Indian theatrical event films of 2027. The movie blends large-scale action with survival horror and alien thriller elements on an international scale. Samuk is directed by Kanishk Varma, produced by Vipul Shah and co-produced by Aashin A Shah.
What is Samuk?
According to reports, the makers of
Samuk aim to push Indian commercial cinema into an unexplored genre space by combining grounded action storytelling with practical creature effects and high-end visual world-building. Producer Vipul Shah said in a statement that the film will be an attempt to create a world-class alien thriller for the audience. Director Kanishk Varma revealed that the idea of
Samuk is inspired by his fascination with elite security forces and iconic sci-fi horror films. Survival thrillers like
Alien and
Predator are serving as the foundation of the film. "I always wanted the creature to feel physically real on set. That
old-school tactile horror is what made films like Alien timeless," he said in a statement.
The film also brings together a major international technical team from Hollywood franchise filmmaking. Acclaimed creature FX designer Alec Gillis has joined the project to design and create the film’s alien creature. Gillis is best known for his work on the
Alien and
Predator franchises, including
Alien: Romulus, along with films such as
Starship Troopers,
Smile,
It and
Tremors. A veteran of Hollywood creature filmmaking for nearly five decades, Gillis previously worked under legendary filmmaker Stan Winston on
Aliens and the original
Predator. The film’s action will be overseen by British stunt coordinator Luke Tumber, whose credits include
Mission: Impossible, the
Venom films,
Star Wars,
No Time To Die and Marvel’s
Vision Quest. A former Royal Marines Commando, Tumber has worked on more than 100 international productions and is expected to design large-scale action sequences for the film.
Academy Award-nominated creature effects designer Alec Gillis, known for his work on the
Alien and
Predator franchises, called the collaboration unique. He shared, "Our goal is to create an alien predator unlike anything audiences have seen before. Together, Kanishk and I designed the title character, which is truly a unique alien horror. In an era of CGI and AI, it is gratifying that directors and audiences still value handcrafted, human-made traditional monsters.”Lauding
Akshay, he said the superstar has the 'physicality of
Jason Statham' and the 'likeability of
Tom Cruise'. "My goal is to create an alien nemesis in Samuk whose energy and screen charisma equal Mr Kumar's. Defeating this new classic movie monster will not be an easy task, even for him," he mentioned.

Samuk represents an exciting fusion of international stunt expertise, visionary filmmaking, and authentic action cinema. His vision is to put a film together by combining 'powerful storytelling with cutting-edge live-action sequences'. Sources close to the production revealed that Samuk is a highly
cinematic survival alien thriller that combines practical creature effects, military realism and old-school horror aesthetics inspired by iconic Hollywood franchises like

Predator.
Akshay Kumar confirms signing Samuk
Akshay confirmed the development and said, "I found the script and subject of Samuk fascinating. Alien thriller is a totally new genre for me, and also for our films. I am very excited about it."According to reports, the makers of
Samuk are focusing heavily on practical effects instead of relying entirely on CGI, with the creature designed to physically exist on set in order to create a more immersive and tactile horror experience.
