latest video game adaptation to be adapted for the big screen is Elden Ring. The FromSoftware video game won Game of the Year in 2022 and Civil War's Alex Garland is set to write and direct the adaptation to bring the difficult game to life. Co-produced by Bandai Namco Entertainment and A24, the live-action adaptation has already begun filming in the UK. The official details for the film, which is being filmed in IMAX, have been finally unveiled. Here's all you need to know about the upcoming feature film being led by Kit Connor and Ben Whishaw.

Elden Ring movie in production

According to a report in Deadline, filmmaker Garland has been a longtime fan of the game. The New Yorker had reported that Garland made a personal pitch to the game’s publishers, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware, and flew to Japan to meet with creator Hidetaka Miyazaki. The film will be produced by Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich from DNA, and original game writer George RR Martin and Vince Gerardis. While under-construction sets from the film had been leaked earlier this month, the official confirmation for the film was announced on April 20.

Elden Ring release date

While the film has been in production for awhile, it will be released theatrically on March 3, 2028. It is going to be filmed for IMAX. With a release date of around two years away, it seems that the film is going to spend a lot of time in post-production to get the world and other action sequences right.

While the official release does not name any characters in the feature film, the full cast for the video game adaptation has been revealed. Besides leads Kit Connor and Ben Whishaw, who previously co-starred together in Little Joe, Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz, Nick Offerman, John Hodgkinson, Jefferson Hall, Emma Laird and Peter Serafinowicz.
