Meta’s
instant messaging platform, WhatsApp, could soon bring its ‘Liquid Glass’ design language to the most used part of it which is its chat interface. As per WABetaInfo, the update is likely to offer the revamped chat bar and the top navigation area. The chat bar may get a bigger glow-up. Rather than sitting flat at the bottom of the device, it may float the interface with a translucent-like, frosted background which reflects whatever is behind it. In fact, the little button that takes you to a new message in the chat could get the Apple-inspired Liquid Glass design. Interestingly, the navigation bar could ditch its opaque look and go transparent with a fade effect that makes your wallpaper and messages peek through from underneath.
iOS 26 Users Do Not Have Liquid Glass
Meta’s instant messaging platform initially tested the
Liquid Glass design last year and rolled it out to the tab bar. However, this rollout has been slow and still most of the users do not have it. Some users still get the previously offered design and even where the latest look is active, the chat screen does not appear updated.
Slow Rollout Continues Despite Early Testing
As per
WABetaInfo, after the roll out of WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.17.10.70 available on the TestFlight app, the instant messaging platform is said to be working on to extend this design to more users. Notably, WhatsApp is reportedly testing its voice note player that needs to be compatible with the Liquid Glass design before it receives a wider roll out. This suggests that WhatsApp could be holding back a complete rollout until all major interface elements are ready to use and look consistent across the chatting platform. Currently, there is no confirmed timeline for the expanded Liquid Glass interface. Once the internal development stabilises, the feature is likely to roll out to more users.
