actor Idris Elba received a knighthood from King Charles at Windsor Castle. The actor, best known for The Wire and Luther, was honoured in the New Year Honours for his services to young people. Apart from Idris, Dame Jayne Torvill and Sir Christopher Dean were knighted for their services to ice skating and voluntary service. Moreover, actress Dame Meera Syal was honoured for her services to drama, charity and literature. For the unversed, the Luther actor founded Elba Hope Foundation in 2022, which advocated education, sustainable development, youth advocacy and more.

Idris Elba during an investiture ceremony. The 77-year-old honoured him by tapping the sword on the actor's shoulders. The Royal Family shared pictures from the ceremony social media. The actor shared another photo on his IG handle which featured him wearing his medal and posing with his wife Sabrina Elba. For the unversed, Idris' knighthood was announced in King Charles' 2026 Happy New Year's Honours List.

People, Idris reflected on playing DJ with King Charles at the Buckingham Palace Garden party. The actor said, "It was the 50th year of The King's Trust, who I work with sometimes. One of our programs, Elba Hope and The King's Trust, we had this DJ that I trained. He'd done one of my courses, and he was DJing." He added that DJing alongside King Charles was an amazing experience.In January this year, the Luther told the magazine that it was real honour to be recognised for his work. "Especially trying to make as much noise for young people and the things that some of them are going through," he added. He further mentioned that his family was honoured by his achievement.
