Kurt Russell, Anna Sawai return to the Monsterverse in 2026
The new teaser of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters was released with the caption, "Something new is lurking. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 resurfaces on February 27." Besides the return of everyone's favorite monster, King Kong, and Skull Island, the teaser also shares glimpses of another monster that looks like a giant spider.

The Apple TV series brings back Kurt Russell as Lee Shaw, with his real-life son, Wyatt Russell, playing the younger version of the character. Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett, and Anders Holm are also reprising their roles in the second series. The show will premiere with the first episode on February 27, 2026, and air weekly on Fridays until May 1, 2026.In the first season, Anna Sawai and Ren Watabe played siblings who had to dig up family secrets that linked them to the secretive organization known as Monarch. They find Army officer Lee Shaw (Kurt Russell). While the first season takes place in the 1950s, it picks up 25 years later when Monarch tries to silence Shaw for what he knows.ALSO READ: Godzilla Returns! According to the press note, the show will return with "the fate of Monarch — and the world — hanging in the balance. The dramatic saga reveals buried secrets that reunite our heroes (and villains) on Kong’s Skull Island, and a new, mysterious village where a mythical Titan rises from the sea. The ripple effects of the past make waves in the present day, blurring the bonds between family, friend and foe — all with the threat of a Titan event on the horizon." Chris Black is the showrunner on the new season, while Laurence Trilling will direct a few episodes. Andrew Colville has written two of the episodes. Co-produced by Legendary Television and Japan's Toho Co., Ltd, several spinoff series are also in the works at Apple TV.
