Now, music composer Mithoon has come out in support of the legendary musician. Mithoon believes that AR Rahman has right to say what he wants.
Mithoon backs AR Rahman amid communal remark row
In an interview with Mid-Day, Mithoon revealed that he grown up looking up to AR Rahman. The music composer added that the musician threw every 'textbook rule' yet created a powerful impact in the industry. "It’s been over three decades, and the country continues to love him. He has every right to say what he felt. All I can say, as his contemporary, is that this country will continue to love him. There can be no other AR Rahman," said Mithoon.
Further, when Mithoon was asked if he has experienced power shifts in the industry, the Bollywood composer shared, "I haven’t experienced anything like this [but] this must be happening in every field. For instance, copywriters feel their bosses don’t understand what they are doing or directors feel that producers don’t understand. Ultimately, our job is to engage the audience with our art."
AR Rahman breaks silence on communal remark row
Meanwhile, in an official statement,
AR Rahman clarified his communal remark. Through a video message on Instagram, the legendary musician conveyed, "I understand that intentions can sometimes be misunderstood, but my purpose has always been to uplift, honour and serve through music. I have never wished to cause pain and I hope my sincerity is felt."
He admitted that he feels blessed to be Indian, which enables to create space, allowing freedom of expression and celebrating multicultural voice.
