Sam Altman's OpenAI Faces Investigation; ChatGPT Accused Of Risk To Kids

In another episode of dramatic turns of events, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier launched an investigation against Sam Altman-led OpenAI. The Attorney General has cited concerns that the products of the American artificial intelligence company may pose harm to minors. In a video posted on April 9, 2026, Uthmeier stated, “We launched an investigation into OpenAI and ChatGPT. Moreover, Uthmeier cited concerns that OpenAI’s data policy could lead to potential exploitation by the Chinese government in ways that could harm US national security. “We’re demanding answers on OpenAI’s activities that have hurt kids, endangered Americans, and facilitated the recent FSU mass shooting. Wrongdoers must be held accountable,” added Uthmeier.Uthmeier has urged the Florida legislature to work quickly to implement protection to safeguard children from the dangers AI poses.

OpenAI Introduces The Child Safety BlueprintNotably, the Florida Attorney General’s social media post came one day after the San Francisco-based tech giant released a new framework to prevent AI misuse, especially for children. In the newly released blueprint, OpenAI highlighted proposals that focus on modernising laws to address AI-generated and altered Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), improving provider reporting and offering more support to investigations, and building safety measures into AI systems to prevent misuse.

The company noted that it has collaborated with the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children and the Attorney General Alliance’s AI Task Force on this policy blueprint.
