Throughout the 1980s, Karyo continued to build a steady filmography, but his major breakthrough arrived in 1990 when Luc Besson cast him in La Femme Nikita. Karyo portrayed Bob, a member of a secret government organisation who mentors Nikita (played by Anne Parillaud) as she transforms into a skilled assassin.
