Mamma Mia star Amanda Seyfried was keen to return. She told Variety, "No one’s said anything about [Housemaid] number two, but I guarantee there will be a number two. And I almost guarantee that I will be [in] some small cameo."
She plays Nina Winchester, one half of a wealthy couple who take in a live-in maid named Millie (Sweeney). Soon, the secrets start tumbling out, taking the story in an unpredictable direction. Brandon Sklenar plays Andrew, Nina's husband.
The Housemaid was made on a budget of $13 million and has already zoomed past that number in its second weekend. A sequel looks very likely, especially under the capable hands of filmmaker Paul Feig.

The Housemaid is the first book in author Freida McFadden's series. The 2022 book has two more follow-up novels, with
