Short's daughter, Katherine Short, is no more. She passed away at the age of 42 in February this year at her residence in Hollywood Hills. The County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that Katherine died by suicide. Months after losing his daughter, the 76-year-old actor opened up about it for the first time. Martin admitted that Katherine's untimely demise has been a nightmare for the family. He further drew parallels between his daughter Katherine and his wife Nancy Dolan's demise. His better-half died at the 58 due to ovarian cancer in 2010.

Martin recently made an appearance on CBS Sunday Morning to promote his Netflix documentary, Marty: Life is Short. During this conversation, the comedian and actors shared his understanding from daughter Katherine and wife
Nancy's deaths. He mentioned that both mental health and cancer are both diseases and sometimes they can become terminal.
Short revealed that his daughter fought for a long time with extreme mental health and borderline personality disorder. Katherine did the best she could, until she couldn't; he added. "So, Nan’s last words to me were, ‘Martin, let me go.’ And what [Katherine] was just saying [was], ‘Dad, let me go'," recalled Martin.The comedian and actor further expressed that he wanted to take mental health out of the shadows. It is because people shouldn't be ashamed to talk about it. "Not hiding from the word suicide, but accepting that this can be the last stage of an illness," mentioned Martin.
Who was Katherine Short?
Katherine was the eldest of three children Martin and late Nancy had adopted. Although she majorly avoided being in spotlight, she did walk red carpets with her father and attendsome events. Katherine received master's degree in social work from the University of Southern California. On the other hand, she had a bachelor's degree in gender sexuality studies and psychology from New York University.

Meanwhile, Martin Short's documentary, Marty: Life is Short, is all set to premiere on Netflix on May 12. According to the OTT giant, it will highlight different aspects of his life, including classic lips, new interviews and never-before-seen home movies. The screening of this project was recently held. It saw celebrities like Selena Gomez, Kate Hudson, Eugene Levy, Billy Crystal, Andrea Martin, and others in attendance.
