The
Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, is potentially adding a new love interest and antagonist for the caped crusader. The superhero film is about to go into production shortly and new reports reveal a bit of confusion regarding the role of Maxima. Earlier, one report shared that Adria Arjona, Marisa Abela and Ella Purnell were testing for the role. Afterwards, another report stated four other finalists with Andor's Arjona as the common factor. Find out more about the role and the Superman sequel below.
Who will play Maxima in Man of Tomorrow?
According to a report in
The Hollywood Reporter, Adria Arjona, Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler and Grace Van Patten are in the running for Maxima. The actresses had reportedly screen tested for the role in Atlanta ahead of filming the DC Studios sequel. Earlier,
Deadline had shared that, along with Arjona, Marisa Abela and Ella Purnell were also rumoured for the role.
However, writer-director
James Gunn took social media to refute those names. He wrote on Threads that he was friends with Arjona and had never met either Abela or Purnell. The
Andor actress is likely looking like a frontrunner, as she has already worked with Gunn in
Belko Experiment. Earlier, viewers had fancasted Arjona as Wonder Woman as well.
The Cleaning Lady's De Dominici,
Alien: Earth's Chandler and
Tell Me Lies actress Van Patten are still in the mix for now.
Who is Maxima?
Introduced in 1989 by writer Roger Stern and artist George Pérez, the character of Maxima is an alien queen from the planet Almerac. She later became part of the Justice League. Maxima is said to be both an antagonist and potential love interest for David Corenswet's Superman.
