Joseph Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy Vijay by Kollywood lovers, has been in the news for various reasons. While his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), made a smashing debut in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, his personal life seems to be grabbing eyeballs too. Amid the ongoing divorce proceedings with his wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, rumours of his relationship with Trisha are strengthening. A dignified silence has been exercised by them. The fractured relationship could be seen clearly at Vijay’s oath ceremony held at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on May 10.
Why Sangeetha Sornalingam did not attend Vijay's oath ceremony?
Vijay’s close people, including his parents Shoba Chandrasekhar and S. A. Chandrasekhar, team members and Trisha came together to stand by his side as he was sworn in as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister.
Sangeetha’s absence was felt. Though the room was bustling with happy voices and excitement, Mrs Thalapathy’s decision not to be a part of it bothered people on the internet.
For the unversed, Sangeetha filed a divorce petition in February 2026 and accused Vijay of
infidelity. She alleged that he has had an 'adulterous relationship' with an actress. "In April 2021, the Petitioner (Sangeetha) discovered that the Respondent (Vijay) was involved in an adulterous relationship with an actress. This caused her deep emotional pain and mental suffering, amounting to betrayal and violation of marital trust," the petition stated, adding that the actor "continued open association with the actress," which caused Sangeetha emotional agony and embarrassment to the children.
Jason Sanjay unfollows father Vijay
Following the divorce petition, Vijay and Sangeetha’s son,
Jason Sanjay, a rising director, unfollowed his father on social media. He and his younger sister, Divya Saasha, also chose not to attend Thalapathy’s oath ceremony. According to local media reports, Sanjay started using the signature ‘Jason Sanjay S’ instead of ‘Jason Sanjay V’. Before the elections, when Vijay declared his assets, the affidavit revealed that he has reserved Rs 25 crore through FD in Indian Bank, Rs 40 crore in FD at Axis Bank, Rs 20 crore FD in HDFC Bank and 391 sovereigns of gold jewellery for Sangeetha.
Vijay, Sangeetha's divorce proceedings
In April, the Chengalpattu Family Welfare court in Tamil Nadu postponed the hearing of the divorce proceedings to June 15. The matter, though raised in February, was deferred to April 20, notably falling just three days ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls. Hence, the hearing has been postponed until June.
