Amid its dream run, the makers of Dhurandhar released a revised version of the film in cinemas, leaving fans confused. The updated version reportedly muted two words and altered an “offensive” dialogue.
While initial reports suggested that the changes were made following directives from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the latest update clarifies that filmmaker Aditya Dhar took the decision independently. The I&B Ministry had no involvement in the process, a news agency stated. Notably, the changes came days after members of the Baloch community approached the Gujarat High Court. They sought the removal of a dialogue from the actioner and accused the film of including hate speech and targeting the community.Aditya Dhar Voluntarily Mutes 'Offensive' DialogueDhurandhar is now playing in theatres with the dialogue removed and a few words muted. As per a PTI report, "Aditya Dhar Films decided to make the changes on their own and there was no directive from the Information and Broadcasting ministry."Officials also said that the makers approached the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with the changes. For those unaware, the revision includes the removal of an “offensive” dialogue.Dhurandhar Accused Of Targeting Baloch CommunityLast month, a petition was filed in the Gujarat High Court seeking the removal of a dialogue referring to the Baloch community. Yasin Baloch from Gandhinagar and Ayubkhan Baloch from Kanodar urged the court to initiate legal action against filmmaker Aditya Dhar. The petitioners also sought a modification of the film’s CBFC certificate and requested a fresh review of the film. They called for a ban on any further screening, airing, streaming, or distribution of the disputed dialogue from the film. They also argued that the line unfairly targets the Baloch community, portrays it in a negative manner, and amounts to discriminatory treatment, thereby breaching the constitutional right to equality before the law.Balochistan Leader SLAMS Dhurandhar MakersEarlier, Mir Yar Baloch had also slammed the makers of Dhurandhar over the portrayal of his community. He wrote in a tweet: "We don't agree with the sentence by police SP Chaudhary Aslam 'Magarmach Pe Bhrosa Kar Sakte Hain Baloch Pe Nahi' is totally against our code of conduct, ethics, culture because it is famous in Baloch culture that 'Ek Glass Paani Ki Qeemat 100 Saal Wafa.' Baloch if given 1 glass of water or helped, they never betray their friends/well wishers."Dhurandhar is currently running in theatres and will soon release on Netflix.
