Marvel
might be gearing up to release its next tentpole, Avengers: Doomsday, but what happened in the MCU 14 years ago still remains the highlight. It was the year when our OG superheroes assembled on the big screen for the first time in The Avengers for the Battle of New York, proving the might of the MCU and what was about to unfold in its Infinity Saga. In the following films, Earth 616 became ground zero for Thanos, who turned it into the battlefield of the primary continuity of the Marvel Universe. Many more films followed, more Avengers joined in, but The Avengers, which released in 2012, remained the central piece in the building blocks of the MCU. Marvel just reminded us all that.
The Avengers' Battle of New York
The Avengers remains an emotional standpoint for the MCU. And if Marvel Studios triggers our memories about how this movie was GOAT that happened in its periphery, it won't be wrong. On April 22, Marvel through its social media handles, posted a specially edited video highlighting the Battle of New York. Compiling scenes and dialogues from the film, which have now become iconic MCU moments, the clip induces enough excitement ahead of Doomsday's release in December 2026.
MCU fans react to Marvel's build-up to Doomsday
Captioning the video with Iron Man's dialogue "Nothing’s been the same since New York," in Robert Downey Jr's voice, it also reminds us how RDJ was the impeccable Tony Stark, before he changes gear and turns the new MCU antagonist Doctor Doom.
Demand for Avengers: Doomsday trailer
The clip attracted attention for its crisp editing and for capturing the most memorable elements of The Avengers. MCU fans posted reactions about how they've missed the emotion the film generated over a decade ago. A user wrote on Instagram, "this was such a great movie MADE BY HUMANS. From concept to performance to visual effects. Human made masterpieces." Another one said, "I can’t believe it’s almost been fourteen years since this film came out and I was literally in my third year of high school when the film came out in theatres."
Some users took to X (formerly Twitter), and demanded Marvel to release the trailer of Avengers: Doomsday at the earliest." Another one guessed, "Oh they’re deffo gonna cover all the avengers movies and then drop the doomsday trailer." A comment read, "New York drew a line in history: before Avengers and after Avengers. Nothing was ever going back to normal." A fan posted, "these were the moments the MCU felt unreal… you just had to be there."As a lead-up to Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel is set to re-release
Avengers: Endgame on September 25. It will include new footage linking it to Doomsday, as Joe Russo calls it a 'bridge.'
