Vijay has opened up about the delay surrounding his much-anticipated final film Jana Nayagan. Originally scheduled for a Pongal release, the film is yet to receive clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification, leading to confusion about its theatrical debut. Vijay has alleged that both the delay and the tragic Karur stampede are part of larger plans to challenge him.
Vijay Alleges Conspiracy Behind Film Delay
Vijay has claimed that there are deliberate attempts to block its progress. Speaking at a election rally in Tirchy, the actor-politician said that multiple forces have united against him and the release of his film Jana Nayagan, linking the issue to broader political opposition. He also referred to the tragic Karur stampede, which claimed several lives during one of his rallies, alleging that both incidents are connected and aimed at weakening his public image ahead of elections.
Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan was initially slated for release on January 9 during the Pongal festival. However, the film is currently stuck with the Central Board of Film Certification. Reports suggest that concerns over intense violence and references to the army led to the film being sent to a revising committee. There were also calls for the film to be reviewed by subject experts before certification. This unexpected delay has significantly impacted the film’s release plans.
About Jana Nayagan
The controversy has taken a political turn, with MK Stalin expressing support for Vijay’s film. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister reportedly criticised the certification process. A few weeks ago, Vijay acknowledged this support and thanked Stalin publicly. At the same time, he accused opponents of turning the delay into a political tool, especially with elections approaching. During campaign speeches, he reiterated that he stepped away from a comfortable life in cinema to serve the people. He said that he is a leader committed to public welfare.
Jana Nayagan holds special significance as Vijay’s final film before his full-time political entry. Produced by KVN Productions, the film reportedly faced potential losses exceeding Rs 100 crore due to the delay. The film also stars Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, and Bobby Deol in key roles. It is said to be inspired by the Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari. Director H. Vinoth has described his experience working with Vijay on Jana Nayagan as collaborating with someone who has a deep understanding of filmmaking. He said that Vijay is well-versed in technical aspects such as lighting, lenses, and shot composition, calling him a complete actor with a director’s vision. Amid the film’s release delays, Vinoth also spoke about his concerns about the lack of media support, saying that speaking openly about the film’s political themes could leave him in a difficult situation. He said that Jana Nayagan is a fully original project and a Vijay-led film, not a remake.
