The film presents an alternate political universe in Kerala, where a dominant party continues to rule under the leadership of K N Varghese, played by Balachandra Menon. His character is portrayed as charismatic yet controversial, with allegations of corruption surrounding him. Varghese’s elder son, Tobin (Nishanth Sagar), is already a Member of Parliament. However, the father sees his younger son John, played by Nivin Pauly, as the more capable successor.

John, however, is focused on his tech startup career and plans to move abroad with his wife. Things take a dramatic turn when a political scandal hits Varghese, forcing John to step into the political spotlight. The story follows his transformation as he attempts to restore his father’s reputation while navigating political pressure and media scrutiny. Sharaf U Dheen plays Ravi Madhavan, a media baron whose involvement deepens the central conspiracy.The film also features Harisree Ashokan, Ann Augustine, Saikumar, and Vishnu Agasthya in key roles.

At the box office, Prathichaya had a modest run. It opened with approximately Rs 65 lakh on its first day in India. On the third day, collections saw a slight rise to Rs 77 lakh, marking a 35.1 percent increase compared to day two. By the end of the early weekend, the total India net collection stood at around Rs 1.99 crore, while the gross collection reached Rs 2.32 crore. Despite a promising concept and strong cast, the film struggled to maintain momentum and delivered only average commercial performance overall.

During promotions, Nivin Pauly spoke about his approach to choosing scripts, saying that he relies on common sense and awareness of political contexts when selecting roles. He also clarified that while he is aware of politics, his primary focus remains cinema and entertainment rather than political alignment.
