Prabhas'
magnanimous return with The Raja Saab has already become a box office celebration for fans. The Tamil movie, which ended Ranveer Singh starrer Dhurandhar's reign by surpassing the spy movie on its opening day, is now gaining momentum. However, its mammoth moment at the theatres was dampened with an unfortunate incident that happened in a cinema hall of Odisha. The Raja Saab released on January 9. Directed by Maruthi, the film features a strong supporting cast including Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Riddhi Kumar, Boman Irani, Nidhhi Agerwal and Zarina Wahab.
The Raja Saab fans burn confetti inside cinema hall
As fans celebrated the movie's release on Friday, a fire was reported at Ashok Theatre in Odisha. The mishap followed after some fans from the audience reportedly burned confetti during
The Raja Saab screening. Videos of the fire triggered sparking safety concerns as netizens started criticising the fans, as the incident supposedly led to the building incurring loss and damage. Many also pointed out at the potential risk the fire posed to those inside the premises.
Netizens call out fire incident and Prabhas' fans over safety concerns
Netizens took to X (formerly Twitter) and called out the "reckless" incident. A user wrote, "These so-called fans should be put behind bars and given mental treatment." One user expressed anger, "It seems they have not been given intelligence at birth. Otherwise, will anyone destroy the theatre they have made with hard work?" Others echoed similar views, with one person remarking."
A post read, "Not fans, antisocial elements damaging properties, knowing there are no consequences. Ensure those who did this suffer for a week immediately. This will automatically end.." A second post stated, "This is the maturity of Prabhas fans. I’m not talking about Darling, I’m talking about the fans. This is not what you guys should have done. Please behave like mature adults. This is not your house; it’s very bad. You guys are shaming Prabhas’ name with this kind of behaviour."
The Raja Saab marks Prabhas’ first attempt at the horror comedy genre, and the curiosity around his latest project is palpable, given his massive fandom.
