Created
by Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses, the HBO series Rooster is finally crowing about its release date. Starring Steve Carell in the lead, Rooster will be released on JioHotstar on March 9. Set on a college campus, from the producers of Ted Lasso and Shrinking, Rooster centers on an author’s (Carell) complicated relationship with his daughter (Charly Clive). The comedy series also stars Phil Dunster, Danielle Deadwyler, John C. McGinley and Lauren Tsai. The trailer for the HBO series was also released and it shows Carell, nicknamed Rooster after the character from his best-selling novels, trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter.
Rooster to premiere in March 2026
Internationally, Rooster will premeire on HBO and HBO Max on March 8, every Sunday at 10 PM EST. In India, the ten-part series will be available to watch from March 9. New episodes will premiere every Monday until May 11, 2026.
Star Carell is also an executive producer on the project and he leads the show from the writers of Ted Lasso and Shrinking. Annie Mumolo, Alan Ruck, Connie Britton, Robby Hoffman and Scott MacArthur are also part of the cast as recurring characters.
Story of Rooster
The 63-year-old actor plays an author named Greg Russo who arrives at Ludlow College to meet his daughter Katie who is a professor there. The father-daughter duo have a very complex relationship and the author known as Rooster wants to show that he is by her side after her husband, played by Phil Dunster, leaves her for a graduate student. Recently, in the Netflix series The Four Season, Carell also plays a character that tries to connect with his college-going daughter, after he leaves his wife for a younger woman.
John C. McGinley plays the dean of Ludlow College who informs Rooster that his daughter burned down the faculty house and punched her husband, a professor. To make up for her misdeeds, he agrees for a series of talks to mend the college’s reputation.
