Vishal Bhardwaj's note on O' Romeo's release eve
On the eve of
O’ Romeo’s release, Vishal penned an elaborate note on Instagram. Surrendering the film to the audience, he looked back at his body of work and noticed the recurring theme of revenge. The filmmaker also felt that the gangster drama made him realise the capacity he holds for love and for violence together. “At sixty, I am only now beginning to understand it,” a part of his note read. Through his protagonist in O'Romeo, Bhardwaj gets to ‘slash throats, split skulls, and blow the brains of the monsters’ that he cannot confront in real life.
He further added that violence in the film is cut by an intense force of love that was born from a lifetime of encounters with beautiful, sensitive souls who have shaped him. It is an emotion that pulled him out of ‘the pool of blood’. Expressing his love for stories about complex humans, who are torn between ‘two extreme emotions’, Vishal revealed what
O’ Romeo means to him. He ended the note with Dr Basheer Badr’s words.
