On
the auspicious occasion of Hanuman Jayanti 2026, Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana: Part 1 teaser was released on social media. A grand event was held in Mumbai in the presence of director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra. Before Nitesh's Ramayana: Part 1, several movies and TV shows were made on the mythological epic. Years before Ranbir, one Kapoor family member played the role of Lord Rama on the silver screen. And that actor is none other than Prithviraj Kapoor.
Prithviraj Kapoor FIRST played Lord Rama on screen
Ranbir's much-awaited first look as Lord Rama was revealed on April 2. After the teaser was shared online, it reminded netizens of the time Prithviraj Kapoor portrayed this divine character on the silver screen. 92 years ago, Ranbir's great grandfather, Prithviraj, essayed the role of Lord Rama in the film
Seeta.
Directed by Debaki Bose, the black-and-white film,
Seeta, was theatrically released in 1934. The Indian talkie Bengali film was produced by the East India Film Company. While Prithviraj Kapoor played Lord Rama, Durga Khote was seen as Goddess Sita. On the other hand, Trilok Kapoor essayed the character of Ravana. It won an honorary diploma at the 2nd Venice International Film Festival.
Now, almost a century later, another member from the Kapoor family has taken up this divine character. In Nitesh Tiwari's two-part
Ramayana, Ranbir will essay the role, while Sai Pallavi will be seen as Goddess Sita. On the other hand, Yash plays Ravana and Sunny Deol portrays the part of Lord Hanuman. Ravi Dubey will be seen as Lord Lakshman. The first installment will be theatrically released on Diwali 2026. And the next installment will arrive in cinemas on Diwali 2027.
