In an interview with journalist Rangaraj Pandey, the actor addressed reports of his alleged rivalry with Thalapathy Vijay. In the audio interview, he said "Some are making things up, and creating a misconstruction between Vijay and me, resulting in fans clashing with each other. Its better if these miscreants remain quiet...I have always wished well for Vijay."He went on to request fans to focus on their respective families, and lead a happy life.

Recently, during Vijay's political rally, Thalapathy Vijay was seen signing an autograph on the special picture, and returning it to a fan. The actor seemed to show off his subtle smile, while signing the picture which featured Ajith and him. This gesture indicates that fans of Ajith are rooting for Thalapathy Vijay, and also establishes the fact that Vijay and Ajith's brotherhood continues to be strong, defeating theories about their rivalry in the industry.Earlier this year, when Ajith Kumar was conferred with Padma Bhushan it was reported that Vijay didn't congratulate his colleague on the honour. However, a portal reported that, these claims were false. Suresh Chandra, Ajith's long-time manager said "These claims are entirely baseless. Vijay was among the first to congratulate Ajith Sir on his racing victory. Similarly, when the Padma Bhushan award was announced, Vijay Sir also congratulated him. Both share a genuine and heartfelt friendship. So, there is no truth to the claim that Vijay Sir didn’t extend his wishes."
