Salman Khan recently made headlines for taking legal route when he sought protection on his personality and personal rights. The Bajrangi Bhaijaan star had put a petition in Delhi High Court to issue directions restraining the several named and unnamed defendants from exploiting his name, image, voice, likeness, dialogues, mannerisms, and other attributes that form part of his persona. On Thursday, December 11, 2025, the Delhi High Court directed multiple social media intermediaries to take action within three days regarding Salman Khan’s complaint.

About Salman Khan personality rights case

Previously, Salman Khan had approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality and publicity rights. The personality rights complaint was about the unauthorised commercial use of his name, images, persona, and likeness across online platforms. The Ready star Khan has approached the court to protect his personality and publicity rights, accusing social media accounts and e-commerce platforms of exploiting his identity for financial gain without permission.

Delhi High Court asks social media platforms to take action within 3 days

According to LiveLaw, during the hearing, Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora instructed the intermediaries to treat Khan’s complaint as a formal request under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021 and take necessary steps within the given timeframe. The Court also clarified that if the platforms had concerns about any links provided by Khan, they should notify him.Additionally, the Court hinted it might issue stay orders against any defendants found using Salman's name, images, or other personal traits to sell merchandise for commercial purposes.At the start of the hearing, Justice Arora referenced a previous ruling from November 27, 2025, in the case of actor Ajay Devgn, emphasising that complainants should first approach the relevant social media platforms through the statutory process before bringing the matter to court.ALSO READ: Salman Khan Poses With Idris Elba At Golden Globes Event In Jeddah, REACTS To Alia Bhatt Being Honoured

When the Court asked for clarification on objections to a specific fan account, Justice Arora inquired, “What is your objection to the fan account? Please explain.” Salman Khan's counsel responded that the account was using the trademark “BeingInTouch” and featuring AI-generated images that resembled the actor.The Court observed that, in earlier cases, takedown orders were typically issued at an ex parte stage (without hearing the other party) in cases involving obscene AI-generated content or commercial misuse of personality rights. However, in this case, the judge noted, “This person has not used it in an inappropriate manner.”

Celebs who sought protection to their pubicity rights

This case is part of a broader trend of public figures seeking to protect their publicity rights. Recently, several celebrities, including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Ajay Devgn, Karan Johar, Kumar Sanu, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Sudhir Chaudhary, and Raj Shamani, have secured interim relief from the Delhi High Court on similar grounds. Telugu actor NTR Rao Junior has also filed a petition, with the court yet to pass an order on his case.
