After
days of speculation about whether the 3 Idiots sequel was happening, well, things do look positive in that direction. At least that's what the man behind the cult Bollywood hit has stated. Even though a concrete script hasn't been locked yet, the filmmaker said the idea is in the works, so fans can expect an official announcement soon. Infact, he revealed that both 3 Idiots and his other classic Munna Bhai franchise were gearing up for a third installment. 3 Idiots is a 2009 release starring Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Boman Irani and Mona Singh, among others. On the other hand, Munna Bhai stars Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi in the central roles.
Rajkumar Hirani reacts to 3 Idiots sequel, Munna Bhai 3
Rajkumar Hirani told Variety India, "I have a couple of ideas at the moment. I’m actually working on both the films. I’ve been working on a ‘Munna Bhai’ script and also on a ‘3 Idiots’ sequel idea."
The filmmaker, whose last offering was Shah Rukh Khan starrer
Dunki, which failed to re-create a similar magic like his other films at the box office revealed that for
Munna Bhai 3, he was yet to find that perfect climax idea. "For ‘Munna Bhai’ I had an idea, which is done to a larger level, but still, I haven’t found the right end for it," he said.
3 Idiots sequel idea came unexpectedly
He however hinted that things were more on track with
3 Idiots sequel even as its idea emerged unexpectedly. After
Boman Irani's recent reaction on the second part, it was Hirani's turn. The director shared, "For ‘3 Idiots’ (sequel), it was just very recently that suddenly, out of nowhere, this one idea sparked up. And I have no idea how it’s gone out in the universe. Because it’s still not there, but we said we’ll work on it. And then, as and when it happens… but somehow one morning, I saw that the news is out there."While both
Munna Bhai 3 and
3 Idiots 2 are his highly awaited projects, Hirani is yet to take a call as to which project to proceed with first. "I have three or four scripts with me at the moment, and I’ll have to pretty quickly take a call on which way to walk now,," he claimed.
