Dharmendra’s death has left a deep void in Bollywood. Known for his unparalleled charisma and remarkable talent, the legendary actor built a monumental career spanning more than six decades and over 300
films. In an old interview, he spoke passionately about “dying with my boots on”, a belief he fulfilled, with his final film Ikkis set to release on December 25.
“I believe in dying with my boots on”
During a 1983 interview with
Hindustan Times, Dharmendra was asked whether he felt his career was nearing its end. At the time, his workload had reduced, and he had recently married Hema Malini (in 1980) while still being married to Prakash Kaur since 1954.Responding with conviction, the actor said, “As an actor, I believe in dying with my boots on. And in that respect, ‘the end’ is certainly nowhere near as far as I can tell you.” He explained that his reduced pace was intentional, but he remained grateful for continued opportunities.Dharmendra added, “However, I don't grudge or envy anybody anything. By the grace of God, I have enough films even today, and some of the top producers and banners never think twice about repeating me.”He continued, “I'm definitely not out. Maybe I have just been a bit out of the news of late because film magazines have new, young stars to gossip about now, but most of the new films you've mentioned have been in a state of production for some time.”
