box office collection day 4: Suriya and Trisha Krishnan's latest action-packed entertainer, Karuppu, continues to perform decently at the box office. The movie enjoyed a good weekend, and the film crossed Rs 60 crore within three days at the domestic box office. While the film experienced a slight dip on day four, it still managed to cross the Rs 75 crore mark, continuing its steady march as one of 2026’s most talked-about releases. Directed by RJ Balaji, the film is a social-fantasy courtroom drama, featuring the protector god Karuppusamy as a commercial hero.

Karuppu earned Rs 10.79 crore net on Monday (May 18), a slight dip from the weekend. This takes the film’s total domestic haul to Rs 78.79 crore. Meanwhile, the film opened to Rs 15.50 crore on Friday (May 15), after postponing its Thursday (May 14) release due to financial challenges faced by Dream Warrior Pictures. Momentum quickly built over the weekend, with collections climbing to Rs 24.15 crore on Saturday (May 16) and Rs 28.35 crore on Sunday (May 17), thanks to high theatre occupancy and audience's solid response.In comparison to
Suriya’s recent films,
Karuppu is already setting new benchmarks.
Etharkkum Thunindhavan (2022) recorded Rs 49.10 crore net in India,
Kanguva (2024) collected Rs 70.37 crore, and
Retro (2025) earned Rs 60.58 crore over their entire runs. The current release is performing particularly strongly in Tamil, outpacing its dubbed Telugu version.
Tamil Nadu CM Vijay on Karuppu
On May 18, producer SR Prabhu met with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, accompanied by a few members of the
Karuppu team. The film’s official X (formerly Twitter) account shared that the Chief Minister had extended his heartfelt congratulations to Prabhu for the success of
Karuppu, describing the gesture as a heartwarming moment for the entire team. Trisha, Suriya, and Balaji were not present during the visit.
Speaking about
Karuppu plot, it follows a father and his ailing daughter who travel from Kerala to Chennai for a liver transplant, carrying 60 sovereigns of gold, only to have it stolen. While the police recover part of it, the family is trapped in a corrupt court system manipulated by the ruthless advocate Baby Kannan. The desperate father prays to the guardian deity Vettai Karuppu, who takes human form as a lawyer named Saravanan. Tasked with navigating the legal system without relying solely on divine powers, Karuppu challenges the corruption.
