The film Telusu Kada tells the story of Varun (Siddhu Jonnalagadda) a chef who wants to settle down in life. He meets Anjali (Raashii Khanna) through a matrimonial site and marries her. The twist in the tale begins when Anjali is told she cannot give birth and finds a doctor named Raaga (Srinidhi Shetty) to help her with surrogacy, who also happens to be Varun's former girlfriend. Following the release on Netflix, fans took to social media to call out the makers for its story which depicts gaslighting, and showcases the male character as someone who doesn't 'care' about the women in the film. One user even said it was worse 'than Arjun Reddy'.
A user said both the male and female leads had problems, while another user said they were enablers. "Spoiler alert - Telusu Kada Was hoping and praying that the fetus should not become a baby. Dad - a narcissistic gaslighter, Mom - has zero self respect and a victim of patriarchy. Just wondering if the child was a male or a female. If it's a female, I hope she knows that her dad believes that her own ego, anger, pride and self esteem is nothing compared to the men in her life because estrogen is smaller when compared to the biggest, the 'testosterone', as per her own dad's warped logic. That's Telusu Kada and the generational trauma cycle continues."
"that this movie was made by a woman, made me reinforce more the opinion that simply being at the receiving end of any oppression won't make one against it- they could be enablers as well. " read the comment.
Another netizen posted "Telusu Kada.. what kinda crap is this man. Hero is such an egomaniac gaslighting . almost ends up kissing his ex in front his wife but gaslights her saying my thoughts are pure it’s you who’s thinking cheap. "Another social media user said he could not believe how badly written it was "Telusu Kada is so badly written that I can't even write how badly it's written".
A user said he could not believe that the film was written by a woman " ragebait is a film, it has to be Telusu Kada.cannot comprehend the fact that this is written & directed by a woman lmao."
A Twitter user said it tests their patience "every scene from telusu kada felt like the female body was getting violated repeatedly, it was somehow worse than arjun reddy. manaki tolerance ochindi ankuntam kani inka chalane scrap undi bayta" Another user said the film did not meet the expectation, "Everytime i expect a female director to show the girls side of grief in a love story, i end up getting a telusu kada kind of film thrown in my face."Telusu Kada is produced by TG Vishwa Prasad, Vipin Agnihotri and Vivek Kuchibhotla, under People Media Factory.
