That’s right, the cute green dinosaur Yoshi joins the famous plumbers in their latest quest to face off against Bowser's son across the galaxy. Who is Yoshi?

The Super Mario Galaxy, co-directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, gives fans their first look at Yoshi. Mario and Luigi find a scared Yoshi while fixing a broken pipe and take him under their wing.

The green-coloured dinosaur-like character becomes a loyal sidekick to both Mario and Luigi. The cute little supporting character has appeared in Nintendo games such as Mario Kart, Mario Party, and stars in his own franchise with Yoshi's Island. His abilities include eating enemies and turning them into eggs, employing his signature flutter-jump, and carrying his friends on his back as a steed. Who is in The Super Mario Galaxy? The sequel featuresChris Pratt returning as the voice of Mario, while Charlie Day voices his brother Luigi. Anya Taylor-Joy is the Mushroom Kingdom's ruler, Princess Peach, Jack Black is the King of the Koopas, Bowser, while Keegan-Michael Key is the mushroom Toad. Actor-filmmaker Benny Safdie and Brie Larson join the cast as Bowser Jr and Princess Rosalina, respectively.

More new characters in The Super Mario Galaxy

Besides the introduction of Yoshi in the first-look trailer, the video game sequel trailer also features a few characters that fans will find familiar. Birdo emerges as an enemy and is seen fighting Princess Peach by throwing eggs at her in her feature film debut. Eagle-eyed fans will also be able to spot the rodent boss Mouser.

New friends Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi also fight the Koopa Lakitu from the 1985 game Super Mario Bros. The animated movie also gives fans glimpses of Baby Luigi and Baby Mario.

The Super Mario Galaxy release date
