Parasakthi, the upcoming Tamil film featuring actor Sivakarthikeyan, caught in a controversy recently after a plagiarism case was filed on the makers alleging that the story was taken without permission.
A complaint was given to South Indian Film Writers Association by a person named KV Rajendram that his story Chemmozhi which is about anti-Hindi agitations and riots, has been plagiarised by the film's writer and director Sudha Kongara. The case pleaded for the stay of release of the film. Now, with only a few more days to go for the release, the Madras High Court has refused to do so, signaling a big relief for makers of Parasakthi for its planned release. The judgment, delivered by Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy, came after detailed arguments from everyone involved in the case.
High Court Refuses To Stay Release Of Parasakthi
The film, which also features Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela, was scheduled for release on 10 January. An assistant director named KV Rajendran had filed a petition in the Chennai High Court, claiming that the film's story was taken from his registered work, Chemmozhi. Senior Advocate PS Raman represented director Sudha Kongara, while Senior Advocate Aravind Pandian appearing on behalf of producer Dawn Pictures, the banner behind
Parasakthi. Both sides presented their arguments before the court, after which the court refused to grant a stay on the film’s release.
During the hearing, questions were raised about whether
Parasakthi could proceed with its planned release amid the dispute. The court's decision now reveals that the period-film will release in theatres as scheduled for Pongal. Parasakthi has been anticipated as a major release during the festival season. The plagiarism allegation centered on similarities between the script of Parasakthi and the petitioner’s alleged work. The court, after considering submissions and the investigation order, found no grounds to prevent the release. While Parasakthi is due for release on 10 January, it will take on
Thalapathy Vijay's film, Jana Nayagan, which is scheduled to hit theatres on 9 January.
