Dhurandhar:
The Revenge makers landed in legal trouble over the use of a recreated version of the hit song Tirchi Topiwala (Oye Oye) from Tridev. Director Rajiv Rai of Trimurti Films had filed a case against Jio Studios and Aditya Dhar’s B26 Studios for "unauthorised use" of his iconic track. He had even accused the team of "robbery" in media interviews. However, in the latest development in the copyright case, the parties failed to reach a settlement. Earlier, urging them not to escalate the dispute, the court had asked them to try mediation.
Dhurandhar 2's Oye Oye Copyright Case Update
The attempt to settle the
copyright dispute between Trimurti Films and the makers of
Dhurandhar 2 has not worked out, reported
Bar and Bench on Wednesday. Trimurti said it owns the rights to the original track and accused the new film’s team of using it without a licence. It also objected to the song being used for promotions, theatrical release and digital platforms, calling it a case of copyright violation. Meanwhile, Super Cassettes Industries Limited, which holds the music rights for
Dhurandhar 2, argued that Trimurti had not been fully honest with the court. They claimed that earlier instances where songs from
Tridev were used in other films have been ignored.
Dhurandhar makers said that the film has already released in theatres and is not expected to arrive on OTT platforms until mid-May.
What's Next?
The court had earlier asked both sides to try mediation, but since that has failed, the matter will now be heard again. As per the reports, the next hearing has been scheduled for May 8.
Dhurandhar 2 Makers Are Thieves: Tridev Director
"This is a theft. Yeh poori chori ban jaati hai. Aur aap isko dusri picture mein dalte hai alter kar ke, toh woh double chori hai," Rajiv was quoted as saying by DNA India.Last month, the Delhi High Court had urged both sides not to escalate the matter. After calling the
Dhurandhar 2 makers "thieves" over the use of
Oye Oye, Rai told the court he would avoid making further media statements. The court had recorded his assurance and directed both parties to maintain restraint.
The makers of
Dhurandhar have not publicly addressed the matter yet.
