The anticipation around actor Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, has prompted fans to purchase tickets priced as high as Rs 2,000. Scheduled to hit screens on 9 January, coinciding with the Pongal festival,
the H Vinoth directorial has already generated massive demand in Kerala and Karnataka, where advance bookings have opened. In Vijay’s home state of Tamil Nadu, however, ticket bookings remain on hold as the film is still awaiting certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The Times of India, advance ticket sales began in Karnataka, with theatres in Bengaluru seeing demand despite premium pricing. At Mukunda Theatre, a 6:30 am show on release day was priced at Rs 1,800 and Rs 2,000, with all tickets selling out swiftly on BookMyShow. Several other theatres—including Swagath Shankar Nag, Sri Vinayaka, Cinephile HSR Layout, Gopalan Grand Mall, Sri Krishna, Brundha RGB, Vaibhav, and Prasanna—also reported houseful morning shows, with ticket prices ranging between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500.Interestingly, the lowest-priced morning tickets were available at Rs 800. Shows scheduled from 9:30 am and 10 am onwards were priced between Rs 300 and Rs 800. In Kochi, the highest ticket price stands at Rs 350, highlighting the stark contrast in pricing between states. Meanwhile, ticket bookings in cities such as Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Delhi are yet to open.
The response highlights the massive hype surrounding what is being touted as Vijay’s farewell film. Trade tracking website Sacnilk reports that theatres are exercising caution and delaying ticket releases to avoid last-minute complications. Reports also suggest that the CBFC has recommended a few changes, including some cuts, prompting exhibitors to remain cautious. As of now, advance bookings are open only in Karnataka, Kerala, and overseas markets.
Jana Nayagan stars Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, and Bobby Deol alongside Vijay, and marks his final film before his full-time transition into politics. The film is also rumoured to be a remake of Anil Ravipudi’s 2023 Telugu blockbuster
