77, a web series reportedly based on gangster Vikas Dubey's life, recently ran into trouble. Richa Dubey, the wife of the gangster, filed the plea in the Delhi High Court to stop the release of UP 77, which she claimed that is based on her late husband's life. It is scheduled to be released on the Waves OTT platform on December 25, 2025. According to the latest development, the Delhi HC has refused to stay the release of UP 77. Delhi HC refuses to say UP 77's release
According to Bar and Bench, justice Sachin Datta noted the producer's statement that
UP 77 is pure work of fiction and not based on any person's life. Delhi HC also directed to add disclaimer to clarify the same before every episode is streamed on the OTT platform."They [producers] are willing to issue further declaration/ undertakings/ press release to allay the concerns of the petitioner that the web series is not based on the real [life] of her deceased husband," the court said. Taking it into account, the court mentioned that it wouldn't stay the release of this web series."In the light of the statement, I cannot interdict. Producer is categorical. They will ensure that the promotional material does not name him," the court added. That said, the Delhi HC will hear the matter next on January 7, 2026.

The producer of UP 77 has been directed to submit an affidavit in accordance with the undertaking given the disclaimer. Earlier, on December 22, the Delhi HC issued to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as well as Prasar Bharti, where the series will be streamed.Stay tuned to this space for more updates!
