Manjummel Boys Director Chidambaram’s Balan: The Boy Set To Be Showcased At Cannes On This Date

Productions, led by Mr Venkat K Narayana and Thespian Films headed by Mrs Shailaja Desai Fenn, recently announced the much-awaited Balan The Boy, creating strong early buzz. The film brings together two of Malayalam cinema’s most exciting creative voices, director Chidambaram (Manjummel Boys) and writer Jithu Madhavan (Aavesham). Building on this momentum, the team is now set to present the film at Marché du Film at Cannes Film Festival with a market screening scheduled for 14th May, introducing the project to the global film community.

Balan The Boy Makes It To Cannes

He further added that Malayalam cinema is making work the world cannot afford to ignore, and they are now at Cannes because they believe, with everything they have, that Balan The Boy belongs at the centre of that conversation.

Talking about showcasing the film to Cannes, Shailaja Desai Fenn of Thespian Films added, "Cannes holds a very personal place in my heart. When I visited in 2022, I made a quiet promise to myself, that the next time I come here, it will be with a film."

As the film went on floors in August, the makers dropped the first official poster from it that features a young boy as he walks with a stick in his hand. They are yet to reveal details about the film's plot, cast, and release date. It will reunite Chidambaram with his Manjummel Boys technicians, including cinematographer Shyju Khalid, composer Sushin Shyam, editor Vivek Harshan, and production designer Ajayan Chalissery.
