One
of Bollywood's biggest disputes has now landed in court. Veteran film producer TP Aggarwal has filed a legal petition challenging the authority of industry bodies to issue bans or non-cooperation directives against film professionals. The move directly questions the recent action taken by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) against Ranveer Singh over his exit from Don 3. Here's everything you need to know.
TP Aggarwal Files Petition Against FWICE
TP Aggarwal, who has produced films such as Love In Nepal and Red Alert The War Within, has filed a petition before the Bombay Civil Court at Dindoshi. The petition names both FWICE and the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPPA) as respondents. Court notices have already been served to both organisations.Aggarwal served as President of IMPPA for 17 years and was elected President of the Film Federation of India (FFI) four times. He currently holds the position of Patron at both FFI and IMPPA. In his petition, he argued that no individual, association, or trade body has the legal right to direct its members to stop working with any person.Speaking on the matter, Aggarwal said such actions affect livelihoods and creative freedom, and must be handled through fair and lawful channels.
What Was FWICE's Non-Cooperation Directive?
On May 25, 2026, FWICE issued a Non-Cooperation Directive, instructing every union member and technician not to work with Ranveer Singh until the dispute was resolved. FWICE clarified that this was not a legal ban but a non-cooperation directive, under which members across its 30 affiliated crafts could voluntarily choose to refrain from working with the actor.
FWICE president BN Tiwari defended the decision, stating they wanted to send a message to the industry that a superstar is not bigger than the law, and that the directive would remain until Ranveer met with them personally.
All About The Don 3 Row
Excel Entertainment announced Don 3 in August 2023 with
Ranveer Singh in the lead role, positioning it as a major franchise reboot. The project was expected to go on floors in 2026, but the collaboration collapsed when Ranveer exited the film.Ranveer reportedly walked out citing creative dissatisfaction. Excel filed a formal complaint with IFTDA on April 11, 2026, demanding Rs 45 crore, the amount they claimed was spent on pre-production before Ranveer's exit. FWICE sent Ranveer three notices, but he did not appear before them.Ranveer's team had reportedly made a peace offer earlier, Rs 10 crore upfront plus a Rs 25 crore discount on a future film. Excel turned it down, as they were not interested in future collaboration.
