In the upcoming episode of courtroom drama, OpenAI has reportedly sent a letter to the Delaware and California attorneys general on Monday, requesting them to investigate “improper and anti-competitive” behaviour by Elon Musk and his associates, as a high-profile legal dispute between the tech moguls and the AI forms moves closer to a trial. Sam Altman urged in a letter sent to the US regulators, according to a report by CNBC. This letter has reportedly raised concerns about Tesla’s chief’s actions against OpenAI he once established. Here’s What OpenAI WroteAccording to the CNBC report, Jason Kwon, Chief Strategist, OpenAI, claimed that the xAI chief has been attempting to undermine the AI firm through a series of actions that OpenAI described
as “attacks”. He reportedly stated that these efforts included coordinated attacks and activities with other tech leaders, including Mark Zuckerberg. Reportedly, the leadership of OpenAI suggested that such conduct could harm the competition in the rapidly growing AI sector and affect the firm’s mission of developing advanced AI responsibility. Musk and Altman co-founded the AI research firm in 2015 as a non-profit entity. However, Musk exited the firm in 2018. To recall, the Tesla CEO launched legal proceedings against the Sam Altman-led company, claiming he had been misled as the company explored transitioning towards a for-profit structure. He claimed that he was manipulated during the discussions around the future of the organisation. Trial Between Elon Musk and OpenAIThe trial betweenOpenAIand Elon Musk is likely to intensify with jury selection scheduled to begin on April 27, 2026, in the Northern District of California. Kwon asserted in the letter that Musk’s actions may potentially obstruct OpenAI’s work towards achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI). OpenAI believes that these alleged actions could shift the development of AGI away from the company, which wants to focus on safety and public benefit. The letter also reportedly referred to The New Yorker’s report, which suggested that individuals linked to Musk had gathered opposition research on the OpenAI CEO, including monitoring his movements. Moreover, the report alleges that false claims regarding sexual misconduct involving Altman have been circulated online.
