What’s
the common factor between the films Chakkikotha Chankaran, Malootty, Kadinjool Kalyanam, Marupuram, Mukha Chithram, Koodikazhcha, and Madhuchandralekha? It is easy to guess that these films featured two exceptional artists - Jayaram and Urvashi, Malayalam cinema's finest actors, who have found fame not just in Mollywood, but also in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada cinema. While their on-screen chemistry is celebrated by fans, they are now all set to enthrall audience, 20 years after their last film collaboration. And the good news is that, they will be seen in director Pandiraj's comedy entertainer, much to the delight of their followers.
Urvashi and Jayaram Team Up After 20 Years For National Award Winning Director Pandiraj's Film
In a latest interview with anchor Gopinath, Jayaram has confirmed that the film is currently being shot and opened up about his reunion with Urvashi again after such a hiatus. Sharing his excitement, the actor revealed that the film is heavily driven by humour and promises to be an entertainment. Describing the atmosphere on set, Jayaram said, “After 20 years, we are starring in a film together. Shooting is going on, but a title has not been finalised yet. It has a massively entertaining, humour-filled narrative. Each scene will take about 10–15 takes as we would keep laughing in between shots. Pandiraj sir would wait for us to finish laughing to resuming shooting the next scene.”
While Tamil audiences fondly remember their collaboration in
Panchatanthiram. In 2020, they reunited in the anthology
Putham Pudhu Kaalai, which was released on Prime Video.Speaking about Urvashi’s acting talent, Jayaram recalled a scene from the sets of their upcoming film that highlighted her spontaneity. He said, “
This film has a scene where she will repeat the exact same words that I would have told her not to say and then look at me while asking, ‘What I said was right?’ Nobody can pull off such an expression,” praising her performance style and impressive timing. Details regarding the story and additional cast members are being kept under wraps for now. An official announcement from the team is expected soon.
On the work front, Jayaram was recently seen in
Kantara: Chapter 1 and has the Malayalam film
Ashakal Aayiram lined up for release. Urvashi, meanwhile, received acclaim for her performance in
Ullozhukku, earning both national and state awards. Their reunion under Pandiraj’s direction is now one of the most anticipated collaborations.
