Alisha Chinai on working with Kishore Kumar
Alisha told us, “I'm very fortunate and honoured to get the chance to meet him. The experience was extraordinary. I was nervous because he was such a big legend. I was singing Kate Nahin Kat Te for the first time. He was there at Mehboob Studios. Normally, you don't have artistes with you in the dubbing theatre these days, but that was the magic of the old days. I rehearsed the song much earlier. He just came there and sang it like, Oh My God. He just killed it. I was blown away by his voice and even how he would just clown around. He was trying to make me laugh and I was giggling away. But I had to be serious because the song was very romantic and oomph-y.”ALSO READ: Alisha Chinai Recalls Being Underpaid Despite Kajra Re's Success: Don't They Have Value For Singer? - EXCL She further added, “I've grown up listening to his songs. The funny ones with Madhubala, particularly. I remember all of them, especially Padosan. I always have those on repeat. They were all hysterical. He was such a multi-talented artiste. He is a once-in-a-lifetime artiste. That whole era of Lataji, Ashaji, Mohd Rafi, Mukesh. Where do you get artistes who have that kind of staying power? Now it's very different. The whole scene is very different now.”Recreating the song
When asked who could sing the iconic Mr India song with her now, Alisha shared, “The only person who would have fitted that bill would have been Zubeen Garg. He's no more, unfortunately; the way he hit those high notes. Even in the song that I sang with him, Dil Tu Hi Bataa from Krrish 3, was just like, Oh My God. I was blown off even then. He would have been able to sing it like a king.” Ek Aur Baar Kishore Kumar, streaming on SonyLIV, features singers paying tribute to the legendary singer by recreating his voice using advanced technology.Do you find this article useful?
