Dhurandhar:
The Gujarat High Court on January 9, 2026, disposed of a petition that challenged allegedly derogatory dialogue against the Baloch community inDhurandhar. The petition was filed by two members of the Baloch community, who claimed that a line spoken in the film by Sanjay Dutt's character stereotyped their community in a negative way. However, the court closed the case after the filmmakers informed the bench that the contentious dialogue had already been muted in the film, leaving 'no grievance' for the court to adjudicate.
Court Proceedings And Petitioners' Grievance
The petition was filed by Yasin Allarakha Baloch and Ayub Balekhan Baloch, both members of the Baloch community, who alleged that Dhurandhar contained a line that demeaned their community and amounted to hate speech. They argued that the film's dialogue depicted Baloch people as untrustworthy, which they claimed was offensive and hurt their community’s dignity. The petitioners sought directions from the Gujarat High Court to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the film's producers to remove or permanently mute the objectionable content from all versions and platforms. They also urged a fresh review of the film's certification and a restraint on any further broadcast or exhibition of the contentious dialogue.During earlier hearings, the court had asked the petitioners to substantiate how the dialogue prejudiced them, noting that the film was set outside India and querying the grounds of their grievance.
Filmmakers' Response And Court's Decision
In the latest hearing, the filmmakers, represented in court, stated that the objectionable words had already been muted in the movie's final cut. This voluntary act effectively addressed the petitioners' main concern, prompting the Gujarat High Court to deem the writ petition 'infructuous' and dispose of it without further directions. The petitioners did not dispute the filmmakers' statement about the muting of the dialogue.
