Deol is currently making headline for starring in Bandar, directed by Anurag Kashyap. The subject of the film, where an actor is wrongly accused of rape by a woman, is creating some controversies due to recent news reports of dowry deaths all over the country. In a chat with Times Group Editor-in-Chief Navika Kumar on The News Hour, the actor made it clear that he understands the difficulties women face and Bandar simply shows the importance of justice instead of trying to prove that every woman is wrong. Bobby Deol also shared his experience as a brother, who was scared to marry off his sisters.

Bobby Deol talked about the plot of
Bandar and said that stories are a reflection of what happens in a society. He stated, "Stories are not created just as fiction. I totally agree with the fact that in our country and in many more countries, women go through more suffering than men do. It is still existent and its sad that it happens." However, he added. "But then, there are men who have been through certain things which were unfair. So, its not that I am trying to say that women are always wrong or men are always right."
Talking about his biggest fear as a brother, Bobby said, "I have grown up in an environment... I mean I have sisters and I always used to be worried about what kind of families would they be married into, how will in-laws behave with them. It is scary." Talking about witnessing misogyny, Bobby admitted, "We have grown up in a male chauvinist kind of a world where men have always been the dominating factor. And I have grown up with so many sisters that the fear is always there." Bobby Deol has two sisters Vijeta Deol and Ajeeta Deol as well as two half-sisters Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.Talking about his character in Bandar, Bobby added, "But this character is trying to show justice has to be prevailed. It is not about showing that only men are getting victimised by all this." He concluded by saying, "I think, if we really look at the percentage of women that go through suffering, it is huge. But its a story and it is not trying to make a statement of this issue. It is trying to show a story about what is existing."
Plot of Bandar
Bandar revolves around Samar Mehra, played by Bobby Deol, a fading television star whose life takes a dark turn after his ex-girlfriend accuses him of rape when he cuts off contact with her. Claiming that he has been falsely implicated, Samar finds himself trapped inside a violent and deeply corrupt prison system, where survival becomes a daily battle.The film is written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee, while Anurag Kashyap has directed the intense drama. The ensemble cast features Bobby Deol alongside Sanya Malhotra, Sapna Pabbi, Saba Azad, Raj B Shetty, Riddhi Sen, Indrajith Sukumaran, Jitendra Joshi, Nagesh Bhonsle and Ankush Gedam. Produced by Nikhil Dwivedi under the banner of Saffron Magicworks, Bandar is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on June 5, 2026.
