Ahead of Stranger Things Season 5, its creators Ross and Matt Duffer (Duffer Brothers) are out teasing fans with cryptic details through their interviews and media interactions from the Netflix show's
promotions. After they revealed that one death in its finale season will be gruesome and "most violent" presumably in the hands of Vecna or his army, another claim by them has now debunked a major fan theory, which, if true, might just be the biggest plot twist on Stranger Things across seasons.
Duffer Brothers debunked major fan theory
In an interview with Digital Spy, Duffer Brothers took us back to Season 1, where it all began, and when Noah Schnapp's Will Byers gets picked by an unknown entity to the Upside Down.Ross stated, "Will's biking and he sees a silhouetted figure in the road. I've seen people claim that that's Vecna or that we went back and changed it. But that I swear was the Demogorgon." He added, "Back in season 1, we obviously hadn't designed Vecna or anything. We knew that there was a more sentient evil behind everything in the Upside Down, but obviously this is long before Vecna had been designed."
New claim has left fans scrathing their heads!
Matt further assured that in its Season 5, they were "not going back and changing anything," as Ross quipped, "if you think we've done that, you're hallucinating". What Ross said next has sent the entire
Stranger Things fandom in a frenzy, leading to a new fan theory, which might just be the biggest one. Ross teased, "I will say the lock that gets opened telepathically, the Demogorgons aren't telepathic. I'll say that much. People have noticed that."
What does this claim imply?
Fans were quick to scratch their heads and conclude that if not a Demogorgon, the lock might have been opened by Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), which eventually led to the creature entering and taking away Will.Social media users went back to Vecna's dialogue when he had Eleven in his captivity in Season 4. "All I needed was someone to open the door, and you did that for me," he said, which many believe now implies the "door" to Byers' house the night Will was taken, and NOT the portal to Upside Down.

Biggest plot twist?
Since the Duffer Brothers confirmed the Demogorgons are not telepathic, so they couldn't have opened the locked door themselves. Fans are now guessing that after escaping the Hawkins National Laboratory and the woods, she Eleven ends up hiding in the Byers' shed. In order to save herself from the approaching Demogorgon who's looking for her, she uses her powers to unlatch the door, ultimately leading the Demogorgon to Will instead of herself. Many now call it a panicked action from the scared young girl to divert the creature's attention from going after her. This also hints at why Eleven was able to recognise Will when she was shown the photo of the group in Season 1.
