The scandal first emerged earlier this year when the NTS notified Cha of additional income tax assessments surpassing 20 billion won, roughly $13.6 million. Authorities alleged that the star had established a corporation under a family member’s name to reduce his tax liabilities. While Cha maintained that there was no intentional wrongdoing, the NTS concluded otherwise and proceeded with the hefty penalty.

He added that he respects the decision taken by the tax authorities and confirmed, “I have paid the full owed amount to prevent further issues.”
