Worldwide Box Office Collection Day 1: After facing a delay over its release, Karuppu finally hit big screens on May 15. Starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, the action drama was set for a theatrical release on May 14. However, the shows were cancelled, and the movie eventually arrived the next day. Despite hurdles, the RJ Balaji directorial opened to positive reviews from critics and fans. It registered a strong opening at the box office in India and worldwide. According to early estimates by Sacnilk, Suriya and Trisha's recently released movie minted Rs 15.5 crore on day 1. The movie earned Rs 13.10 crore in Tamil and Rs 2.40 crore in Telugu. On the the other hand, RJ Balaji's film collected Rs 4 crore in gross collections (overseas), and Rs 17.93 crore (in India). Considering both, the total worldwide earnings of Karuppu stands at a whopping Rs 21.93 crore.

A day before its original release, director RJ Balaji had addressed concerns around the film's bookings. In a note that he shared on X (formerly Twitter), the filmmaker shared that he had no concrete answer to the situation. He assured fans that producers were trying their best to solve the hurdles. "This film has always had hurdles, and somehow God has made us sail through all that and here we are after 32 months," wrote RJ Balaji. The filmmaker further expressed that he had complete faith in God. He even promised that his movie would break all barriers and release in cinema halls.

What RJ Balaji said about Karuppu?

Earlier, at a promotional event, RJ Balaji stated that Karuppu isn't made for people on social media. "The film is made for people of Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra… It is not made for people on social media," he said. The director added that Suriya and Trisha's movie is made for those who celebrate cinema in the darkness of cinema halls. He continued to say that the movie isn't for those who do 'post mortems' on social media.
