Sudha Chandran reacts to Naagin 7 success
Reacting to the performance of
Naagin 7, Sudha Chandran described the supernatural drama as a true franchise that continues to reinvent itself. She pointed out how people constantly question what more Ekta Kapoor can do, only for her to silence critics repeatedly. “
Naagin is a franchise. People keep saying, what more will Ekta do now? But she is doing it -
Naagin 7 has reached number one!” Sudha said, making it clear that public skepticism has always followed Ekta’s projects, yet success continues to follow her work.
Drawing parallels with
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Sudha noted that even that iconic show's reboot. According to her, people questioned how such a serial could work, especially when the OG show had already aired over two decades ago. “They said
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi cannot work. They ask how long can it continue - it’s been around for almost 25 years,” she shared.Sudha candidly admitted that while
Naagin 7 may currently occupy the number one position,
KSBKBT holds its own at number two, making both shows winners in their own way. “I’m sorry to say this, but yes,
Naagin is number one. And
Kyunki… is number two. In a way, both are number one - weekly and daily,” she explained. For Sudha, this balance further reinforces Ekta Kapoor’s ability to dominate multiple formats simultaneously.
Sudha Chandran believes TV era will never end
Beyond ratings, Sudha Chandran passionately spoke about the relevance of television as a medium. She firmly believes that the era of television will never end. According to her, TV remains special because of its accessibility and the shared viewing experience it offers. “It’s a medium you can watch sitting in your bedroom with your family. That’s why television is important,” she said.
Reflecting on earlier times, Sudha recalled how families once gathered together to watch serials, creating moments of connection and togetherness. She linked this habit to the joint family system, where multiple generations bonded over daily shows. While this collective viewing culture weakened for a while as people began consuming content individually on phones and personal screens, Sudha feels the tide is turning again. She believes the success of shows like
Naagin 7 signals a revival of joint family viewing and social dramas. “If a show is a hit, it means joint family viewing and social dramas are coming back. So this can never really end,” she stated confidently. Interestingly, Sudha also revealed her own viewing preferences, admitting she doesn’t watch OTT platforms. Instead, she prefers traditional serials watched comfortably on a big screen. “I don’t like watching on small screens. I prefer watching on a big screen, lying on my bed, at my own convenience,” she said.Watch the full interview here:
