2023, Naga Chaitanya made his OTT debut with the supernatural thriller Dhootha. Now, two years later, the series is embarking on its second season for Amazon Prime Video. This time, the actor has a larger role as he joins the show as a producer making his debut. The launch of Dhootha Season 2 was a family affair as Chaitanya's father, Nagarjuna, was present at the special pooja ceremony to clap the board and give his blessing to the cast and crew. The show was officially renewed for a second season in 2024. Here's what we know so far.

Naga Chaitanya turns producer on Dhootha Season 2

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Naga Chaitanya posted about his auspicious beginnings for Dhootha as he took on the role of producer. He wrote, "Onwards and upwards. Here’s to the magic ahead." He and actress Parvathy Thiruvothu are returning to reprise their roles as Sagar Varma Avuduri and DCP Kranthi Shenoy, respectively.

The Thandel actor also posted images from the pooja ceremony where creator and filmmaker Vikram Kumar and the cast geared up for Season 2. The plot of the second chapter is being kept under wraps for now but Priya Bhavani Shankar will return as Priya Avudhuri, Sagar's wife. Several members are returning for the new instalment including composer Ishaan Chhabra; cinematographer Mukes V is stepping in after Mikolaj Sygula in the first season.

About the world of Dhootha

Vikram Kumar's supernatural series features Naga Chaitanya as an investigative journalist named Sagar who receives a strange newspaper that predicts the deaths of those around him, beginning with his dog. As the series progresses, more and more journalists and their immediate families start dying in gruesome ways, indicating a larger sinister narrative.

The title "dhootha" refers to a messenger of bad news and doom in this case. The horror series also explores journalism ethics over eight episodes. The ensemble cast of the first season also included Prachi Desai, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Tharun Bhascker, Rohini and Tanikella Bharani. The series premiered on December 1, 2023, on Amazon Prime Video and was picked up for a second season by June 2024 by the streaming service.

Naga Chaitanya's upcoming project

After the success of Thandel in 2025, the actor is gearing up for Karthik Varma Dandu's Vrushakarma. Meenakshi Chaudhary, Laapataa Ladies actor Sparsh Shrivastava and Jayaram co-star in the supernatural thriller. Chaitanya is also working on a project with director Shiva Nirvana.
