The
legal battle between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni over It Ends With Us has officially come to an end, but the fallout surrounding the explosive case is not yet quiet. Nearly a year and a half after Lively first filed her lawsuit alleging sexual harassment and retaliation during the making of the film, both parties have now agreed to a settlement. While reports suggested neither side would receive financial compensation, Lively’s legal team has framed the outcome as a major win for the actress. Read on to know inside details of the much-hyped settlement.
Blake Lively’s Lawyers Call Settlement A ‘Resounding Victory’
According to documents filed on Thursday morning, both parties agreed to withdraw the case with prejudice, effectively ending the legal dispute before it could head to trial. The trial, which had been expected to last nearly two months, was scheduled to begin in just under two weeks.Despite speculation that neither side walked away with money, Lively’s lawyers insisted the outcome strongly favours the actress. Attorneys Michael Gottlieb and Esra Hudson said in a statement that Baldoni and the other defendants now face “personal liability” after waiving their right to appeal.
The lawyers further claimed that the settlement effectively dismantled what they described as attempts to portray Lively’s accusations as fabricated. “By admitting that Ms. Lively’s concerns deserved to be heard, the defendants have ended once and for all the fiction that Ms. Lively fabricated claims of sexual harassment and retaliation,” the statement read. Lively’s legal team also said that she still retains the right to seek attorney fees and punitive damages related to Baldoni’s now-dismissed counter-defamation lawsuit. Importantly, neither side will appeal whatever decision the judge ultimately makes on those remaining financial matters.
More about the It Ends With Us controversy
The dispute first exploded publicly in December 2024, months after the release of It Ends With Us, the adaptation of Coleen Hoover's book of the same name. In her lawsuit, Lively accused Baldoni of creating a toxic and hostile work environment on set. Among the most shocking allegations were claims that Baldoni discussed his “pornography addiction,” past sexual experiences, and explicit topics involving cast and crew members during production. Lively also alleged that Baldoni and producer Jamey Heath walked in on her while she was breastfeeding, while Heath allegedly showed her a video of his wife naked. According to the filing, the situation escalated to such an extent that executives from Sony Pictures were allegedly brought in for an emergency intervention meeting.
Lively also accused Baldoni and his publicity team of orchestrating a targeted 'crisis management' campaign designed to damage her public image during the film’s press tour. However, the case also saw major legal setbacks for Lively. Ten out of her 13 claims, including several tied directly to sexual harassment allegations, were dismissed before settlement discussions concluded. The remaining dispute largely centered on breach of contract and retaliation claims. Baldoni, on the other hand, sued the actress and her husband Ryan Reynold for defamation. Earlier this month, both parties gave out a joint statement which said they were moving on by settling.
