Vijay's final film Jana Nayagan has caused quite a stir right from the beginning of the year. Problems continue to mount on it, even as the makers are dealing with certification delays. The film, directed by H Vinoth, remains stuck in limbo after a legal dispute with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Meanwhile, hours after the film's leak, an anti-piracy firm is working with the producers to trace the source of the leak. With a massive budget and political attention surrounding Vijay’s transition into politics, the situation has become even more sensitive.
KVN Productions begin tracing origin behind Jana Nayagan movie leak
The film is produced by the Bengaluru-based KVN Productions. According to sources, the unauthorised leak has emerged through peer-to-peer torrent networks, prompting urgent anti-piracy measures. The production house is working closely with WarX, an Erode-based anti-piracy firm, to contain the damage. Raamesh S, CEO of WarX, told
The Hindu that the team is working with the makers to trace the original culprit behind the leak. The firm is also preserving publicly available peer-to-peer torrent traffic logs related to the film to gather evidence for legal action.
This case is likely to become a significant test for the stricter provisions introduced through the 2023 amendments to the Cinematograph Act, 1952. Under the new rules, individuals found guilty of leaking or pirating a film can face imprisonment of up to three years and damages amounting to as much as 5 per cent of the film’s gross audited production cost. Given the enormous budget of
Jana Nayagan, the potential penalties could be heavy for those behind the crime.
About Jana Nayagan's release delay
The leak comes at a time when
Jana Nayagan is already facing delays due to certification issues. The film has been in limbo following a month-long legal standoff with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The makers initially challenged objections raised by the board but later withdrew the case and agreed to submit the film to a revising committee after making necessary changes. Despite this, the film has not yet received certification.
Originally scheduled for release on January 9, the film was postponed after certain scenes were flagged for potentially hurting public sentiments. Reports also suggest that the delay is linked to Vijay’s political entry as the chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) ahead of the Tamil Nadu elections.Produced by KVN Productions,
Jana Nayagan is reportedly made on a massive budget, making the leak even more damaging. The film is described as a political action thriller and is expected to be Vijay’s final film before his full-time entry into politics. Directed by H Vinoth, the film features an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani. The film is also believed to be a remake of the Telugu film
Bhagavanth Kesari.
